Intermediate Practicum
Red Path Now

Some of us have been working with our Animal Allies as Guides in Spirit just as we have been working with them as Protectors in Matter. This is true whether on our personal Medicine Wheels or within our Sacred Circles and Spaces. We have all seen, heard, dreamed about, or Experienced them in various ways. At this point on the walk with the Animal Allies of the Medicine Wheel of Life, we have discovered and become familiar with a “Significator” For this leg of the Path, it is usually an Animal Ally that can be a lifelong Ally as well as our “First Animal” — BUT ALSO A GUIDE.

Maybe it appears when we have a decision to make. Maybe it appears when we are in need of comfort. Have you seen them?

The Ally we just started walking with is Fox. Fox can appear for us in regards to Spirit or Matter. Any Animal Ally can. If this was not our Significator, that is okay! Now there is another Animal Ally! Know too, just as with Matter, in Spirit all of our Allies are known to send other Cousins if we are in more need of a different Magick, Medicine or Guidance. (As stated before, a significator is the most understandable term in western culture for this Animal that represents your personality traits.)

But did you also recognize that you are surrounded by two other Animal Allies as well?
(We mentioned it before!)

Wolf Spirit

Three Circles Medicine & Magick™ works to keep all of its Practitioners, past and present, continually Protected with the energy of the Animals on whose Path they chose to walk. For Wahya Circle, it is the energy of the Wolf. Fur for warmth and Protection to help safeguard from non-beneficial interactions of one’s Life Path. Teeth bearing to back that Protection when needed. Paws to assist on our Journey, empowering our discernment of Intent.

Even Practitioners that do make it to the end of a Year and Day with us – still feel those in the Circle. And, those in the Circle often feel them in turn.  We are bound by Magick and Medicine here. This naturally happens when you walk sincerely in Spirit with others.

For Wolf Spirit when it is called upon, it can help with everything from Guarding a space to Transmuting the energy within it or a situation. (Envision that Wolf Spirit walking your space. See it do what you need it to.) Wolves are greatly associated with the Craft as Wolf Spirit is a Great Protector of thse matters. Wolf Spirit is known to symbolize a combination of power, loyalty, guardianship, teamwork, and wildness in many cultures. They are also said to be Intuitive and have a nearly supernatural ability to sense dangerous situations. When working Psychic Magick, or walking the Path of Mediumship, these are strong allies to have.

Raven Spirit

The other Animal Ally that surrounds us in Spirit when we walk this Circle is Raven, and often Crow. They guide us with their keen eyesight, aiding our spiritual Insight. They Protect with piercing claws and feathers that fly high in the Air. Raven many times, guiding Wolf, to guide us. We will always have that team with us.

The ancient Egyptians associated Ally Raven with Magick and Prophecy. They believed that these birds had a deep connection to the supernatural. Just as ancient are the stories from Celtic to Indigenous mythos, In Irish lore, the Goddess Morrighan has a number of different guises, one of which is Raven. In Her aspect as Goddess of War, warriors believed She was on the battlefield in the form of Raven. A Scottish legend tells of a hag called Cailleach. She took the form of a number of birds SUCH AS RAVEN, and was said to feast upon men's bodies.

With the Indigenous, take for example the Haida, Tlingit, and Tsimshian tribes of the Pacific Northwest Coast. They have moieties called Raven. Ravens are prominent figures in the mythology of these tribes, as well as the Tahltan people. But, Raven is perceived a little different with each First Nation. For example, in the North American tribe, Raven often is a popular crest figure or totem. In the South American tribes, Raven is a Guardian Spirit. To the Lakota Nation of North America, Raven, or kȟaŋği tȟáŋka, symbolizes that change and Transformation we spoke of. And in some tribes, Raven can be considered a trickster.

Bottom line, Ally Raven has Prophetic abilities. It is seen as a Messenger between the earthly realm of Matter and the realm of Spirit. The Raven's sharp intelligence and dark appearance allow it to be a powerful symbol of Transformation and Enlightenment. This makes Raven, and Crow, ideal Animal Allies for Mediumship.

That is the Magick and Medicine we Work here on the Red Path of Spirit.

With this Knowledge, we may begin to recognize the Allies around us more often. We may feel the others of our Circle more frequently. If we give them our Time, they will Work with us on our Path as we need. Do not hesitate to call on ANY Animal Ally that shows itself. Trust. There is Magick or Medicine there for all of us to explore.

Completing the Red Path of Spirit

Most humans, even those of us born into families who share this Knowledge, do not always “complete” our walks. Just as with the Blue Path, the Red Path can take a lifetime or LIFETIMES to complete. We are not always Aware of how much Time each of us has with each lifetime is the primary reason for this. Understanding this, we often respectfully choose to walk the entire Circle of Animals in Spirit with the Intent to only introduce ourselves to each Animal.

This technique takes some time to do as well. Just as before, we still have to give that Animal Ally some of our Time to get to know them, at least something small—such as their method of communication with us or what symbol they use as a Key to notify us that they are present. Introducing ourself and allowing our Higher Self, or Spirit, adequate time to hear these Allies, takes about half of a moon cycle per Animal with Focused Intent.

Once we introduce ourselves to each Ally Spirit, it is then that we often ask if there is a specific Animal that wishes to come forward and Work with us. It is then determined which Path of the Wheel we are on for that Time to learn, or gain Knowledge. Blue or Red? Awakening, or Resting? For most, a Red Path is a very spiritual Path, involving great deeds of Soul Retrieval, Shadow Work of many lives, not just one. Integration. It is a Path of Spirit and often one of a Cleric or one of a Servants Heart. We venerate and show gratitude to those that Guide us.

Red Path is that of Spirit. But, we often spend a lot of this time reorienting ourselves to where we currently are and organizing THIS INCARNATION. Time is spent on Healing, working on Self, Self-Love, Sovereignty, etcetera. Yes. There CAN be some of each type of Work on each Path in varying degrees. It ALL depends on where YOU are a s Practitioner and what YOU need, not someone else. Typically though, Red is for those who have just Awakened and have Self Work to catch up on. This can end up as a Teacher’s Path.

No matter what Path you walk, this is YOUR Experience.

As we understand we are to seek balance in all things to benefit our lives to our highest, we work with what reveals to us from the Universe. We Trust the Universe is guiding us. We work on Self VERY regularly. We Change. We grow. We learn how to be in our Stillness.

We become fuller, whole, Beings.

Another Perspective

The Red Path is also called The Red Road and is a concept that represents a path to living life well, and is inspired by the following Native American spiritual teachings:
Respect: The Red Road is a commitment to respecting others, oneself, and creation.
Connection with nature: The Red Road is based on connecting with nature and embracing the traditions of the continent's ancestors.
Wellness: The Red Road is a path of wellness, balance, and spirituality.
Rejection of addiction: The Red Road is a rejection of addiction to drugs, alcohol, and anything else that may damage oneself or others.
Rejection of materialism: The Red Road rejects materialism and the negativity that it brings.

The Red Road is a concept used in many of the Pan-Indian and New Age communities, but is rarely used by traditional Indigenous people in this way. There is a lot more involvement FROM BIRTH to achieve this goal. For example, the Lakota people call the Red Road "Chanku Luta". For the Lakota, the Red Road is a path to a spiritual and full life as a member of the Lakota community.

For contrast, in Christian culture, the Red Road represents the road that led Jesus to the cross.
