Comparative Practices 101
Goddess of Divine Feminine: Spirit

INANNA
Goddess Inanna, “The Enduring Goddess”, is among the oldest deities whose name is recorded in ancient Sumer. (‘Recorded’ being the operative word, as we are aware – oral histories of most Indigenous Peoples are spoken and passed down generation to generation.)

As you recall, Inanna is listed among the earliest seven divine powers in written form: Anu, Enlil, Enki, Ninhursag, Nanna, Utu, and Inanna. These seven form the basis for many of the avatars, or incarnations, of Divinity who followed.

Pele via Lono?

PELE
Not moving chronologically, but in the order the avatars of Divine Feminine were presented, we see Goddess Pele. Goddess Pele is a troubling story to us. It is in our current history of the colonization of Indigenous people of the Polynesian lands. Artifacts of the Polynesian people have been scattered all over the world. United States. Europe. Australia. Even to the Middle East. Those who went to the islands, simply took from them.

What we do see, representative of Matter, we are told it is used for Rituals concerning sustenance related to rainfall and agriculture, fertility and abundance. It is representative of the time God Lono (Matter) took Goddess Pele (Spirit) into the “dark cave”, just as other Goddess have been taken, and was shown how She has power as a Goddess. (Some still feel this is “male subjugation” of female and the story does not “feel” correct to many.) Even so, others feel the “spikes” above God Lono are Goddess Pele’s “protection” for Him. Similar to how Kali aligns with protecting Shiva. The story may or may not have been influenced by male Ego. Research is ongoing and encouraged.

But Truth in Divinity is being revealed. Unless you are an “enlightened” Hawai’i Art professor, one may never see some of these artifacts in existence. With time, that is changing some. There is hope that things will be returned to the Polynesian Indigenous.

With that said, we now have a description of Pele in most art. Fire is seen as Her crown and the Earth is Her body. That translation is still prevalent amongst the Indigenous but representations of it have had to become modern as the original artifacts, statues, tikis, etc, are mostly absent from the islands.

KALI
Next up is Kali. A master of everything from Death and Time to Sexuality and Violence, She is a tremendous embodiment of Shakti, or Spirit. Kali exhibits tremendous power. Espoused to Shiva – Matter, Kali is the story of what emerged of Spirit when Her spouse drank poison and She dove “into the darkness of death” and saved Him. Philosophically, some think that Spirit is what keeps Matter alive, as Matter would destroy itself if left to its own devices thereby effecting part of Spirit. Gender is irrelevant. Matter is matter. Spirit is spirit. But, these are the stories that have survived for thousands of years.

HEKATE
Lastly, we have Hekate. We know the stories have been adulterated by those who have told them but we see similarities. Hekate descended. Hekate has a similar crown. What other stories do you know about these Goddesses that are related, or alike?

Plausible Deniability

Modern Practitioners are more and more unable to deny the Truth and plausible practices of what once was perceived as ‘the delusions’ of the Indigenous peoples of the world.

We understand now that alternate stories were created and inserted by those who had/have a vested Ego driven interest in maintaining the lies that are perpetuated throughout our colonized Magickal and Medicinal history. There has been constant denial of “origins” and “proof” related to “who colonized who”. It is the goal of Three Circles Medicine to encourage each and every Practitioner that comes through our virtual doors to explore the things you give service to in the your practices.

The Ancient and Indigenous models of practice, those of the Arcane Arts, proposes this theory to carry with you throughout your personal Journey as a testable and verifiable theory.

“If a concept, word, or spell, W is found in culture C, then by logical relation it would be found in culture A as well, which is the culture that preceded it.”

Read that again.

The biggest part of Global Shadow we have for our current time is to understand this occurrence and sift through fallacy to find our Truth.

Follow the Wisdom. Find your pearls.

Thank you for walking with us through the Month of the Goddess!
