Calling Down the Moon

Whether we practice “calling down the moon” or “drawing down the moon” — it is considered to be a literal Experience by some, and a mere literary phrase by others. Regardless, it is powerful Magick when done with Intent in Ritual.

This energetic Experience, or one similar, is something each practitioner of Yona Circle will Experience personally on their chosen Paths if Ritual is an integral part in that choice. With the final Ritual presentation for the Heka Certificate of Completion being a time when some Experience this energy, it is not always what will be encountered. Whether felt through the emphatic speaking of an Invocation or the energy of the Magick and Medicine surrounding a Work, it often can and will manifest thousands of years of energy through our Work if it can or is enabled to. The presence of Spirit, inside of each of us when we give our Self wholly to our cause, or this task of Magick or Medicine, is acknowledged by the Universe in ways we cannot always imagine.

Drawing Down the Moon, is an acceptance by the Practitioner of a mediumistic manifestation of the energies of the Divine powers, God or Goddess as called upon. Practitioners are considered to be channeling the Divine Energy, whatever that is to each of us personally. For example, to some, it is Goddess Diana of ancient pantheons. To others it is Hekate, Anima Mundi, or what many now know as the Goddess of the Witches. To even others it is Quan Yin. It is all perception. It is all in how the Goddess appears to the Practitioner personally, and their Intent.  It is irrelevant as to whether the one channeling the message from Goddess is male or female, priest or priestess. It does not matter how they identify as a human, only that they can communicate the message received effectively to others. (This is not limited to female energy only.)

It is well known that many Goddesses that are found on Earth are “of the Moon”. A select few can be traced throughout history working with the Sun, or representing the Sun, but the Moon moves Water, or the seas that embody emotion and Female Mysteries. While the Moon represents “feminine” energy, it is not in truth for us to think that “only females” may embody that energy. We all embody varying degrees of both male and female energy at different times throughout our lives.

As also learned previously in Golanv Circle — Second Degree, the moon is symbolic of Spirit and of Higher Self. Both of which play integral pieces in this Invocation. To further the thought, many Paths additionally consider “Drawing Down the Sun” --a channeling of messages from the Divine God. Each Practitioner should call to what they are drawn to. It has become accepted in modern times to be considered an “Oracle” when channeling for messages from any entity that is not of human Spirit, but of Deity.

It is important that that Practitioner has a strong personal connection to their Deity for the messages received via oracle. Clearing space and grounding before being open to receive becomes crucial as what comes through is often not perceivable to our minds but to our higher consciousness. Those with that strong connection to Deity have an instantaneous feeling as to whether the messages are true or are being filtered in from somewhere not intended to connect with them.

Being able to accomplish this task is often evident of someone who is adept at a role of Cleric or Clergy, or of the High Priest/Priestess caliber, Monks, and various other Clerics from many Paths. The ability to oracle, or guide Divinely, is what is sought out in leadership for sharing all esoteric Knowledge. An Initiate, or Laymen, of any Path looks for this quality to help them through their liminal stages of spiritual change and growth as they become more and more aware. This is one of many torchlights that are sought out by all who Seek further Knowledge.

Calling Down the Moon
This Rite is not owned solely by any one Path. It is utilized by any Practitioner of any Path that calls upon their Deity.

This Rite is preferred to be done at the Full Moon but can be brought forth in any time of need or desire of the Practitioner per their Path or Intent. (Example: Calling Down a ‘Dark’ Goddess could be done on the Dark Moon for Her fullest strength.) The same is said of Call Down the Sun.

This Rite DOES NOT “have to” be memorized. This Rite can be spoken from the heart or we may hold our digital device or notebook to read from.

Cleanse. Clear. Ground. Prepare space per practices.

To begin, raise arm(s) in the shape of a vessel, open and empty, able to receive, towards the Moon of your Intent. For those that cannot do this, see this occurring in your Mind’s Eye. (Place and time of day in your Mind’s Eye can be relevant.) This is a symbolic representation of the unification of Spirit and Matter.

Before beginning the Invocation, many Practitioners will clap or ring a bell above their heads to clear the energies and focus Intent to what is about to occur.

Some will also gather the light (by reflection) into a cauldron or bowl filled with Water, charging it with the Ritual energy. (This Water can be used as Moon Water for magickal Intents or as Consecrated Water for Protection magicks.)

Begin visualizing the energy of the celestial body shining in upon you. Feel it flow into you in streams of energy. Allow your Vessel of Being to fill fully before reciting your words.

You are advised to do what you are called to do at this point — as you begin to speak aloud.
No two Paths are the same.”

Divine Goddess, Send me your Light!
Give me your power on this Moonlit and Magickal night!

I invoke you, Goddess, into my Being and into my Soul!
Fill my Vessel of Being with your Knowledge so that I may feel whole in sharing with my coven!

I stand before you with Unconditional Love and awe!
I give gratitude for your gifts of Knowledge that you send.

I ask you tonight to show these gifts unto me,My Mother, my Goddess,

As I Will It, So Will It Be!

This ends the Invocation. You will then spend a few moments gathering your thoughts as they may not be yours, and share the message to your group or write it down for Self. Some Practitioners involve more, some less. YOU DO WHAT CALLS TO YOU, or what is requested from one’s Path.

After time has passed, cleanse, clear, ground and safely transport the Water if used to its storage location.

Remember, drawing Down the Moon can be short, simply and to the point OR as elaborate as YOU wish to make it. Unless you follow a specific Path, there is NO “right way”.
