Sigil Craft 101
History of “Dashed Line”

Separating.

The dash (—) is a mark of punctuation used to set off a word or phrase after an independent clause or a parenthetical remark (words, phrases, or clauses that interrupt a sentence). ... "A dash is a mark of separation stronger than a comma, less formal than a colon, and more relaxed than parentheses."

Separating and Joining.

The hyphen, not to be confused with dashes (figure dash ‒, en dash –, em dash —,  horizontal bar ―), are longer and have different uses, or with the minus sign −, which is also longer and more vertically centred in some typefaces. As an orthographic concept, the hyphen is a single entity.

In terms of character encoding and display, the entity is represented by any of several characters and glyphs (including hard hyphens, soft or optional hyphens, and nonbreaking hyphens), depending on the context of use.

Alternatively known as a subtract, negative, or minus sign, the hyphen ( - ) is a punctuation mark.

The hyphen defined in this way only takes us back to around 90 BCE with the works a Hellenistic grammarian and a pupil of Aristarchus of Samothrace named Dionysious Thrax. Let us not stop there.

Back in the deep dark caves of antiquity, we see it. Dashed … or dotted… what was its true meaning? Was it a trail? Animal tracks? A planned trajectory? Something more? We do not fully know yet. Contextually speaking, this symbol “separates” or “joins” two things found in our reality represented by glyphs we now call “grammar.”

But in antiquity, the horizontal axis represents the path from birth to death, beginning to end, and linear time. This axis represents life on planet Earth as a binary, linear process- life to death, beginning to end, and the seeming dual nature of human existence evidenced only by our symmetrical halves, seen in the sagittal plane: left and right. But, that is not the “whole”.

It can also sometimes be seen to represent male and female together, good and evil together. The whole. These ancient concepts are seemingly embodied even in our language- our good, “righteous” side, and our dark, “sinister” side. (Sinister having the original Church meaning “of the Left Hand”) That is, if you believe in a Patriarchal driven Duality.

The horizontal line, the receptive, also indicates female Earthly nature. Many early solar temples (such as Stonehenge) are not only solar calendars, but some think they are representations of the Earth awaiting fertilization from the masculine energies of the star Sol. (The appearance of the rays of the solstice on these ancient solar altars represents the copulation of the Gods.) It is a 'solar’ clock, if you will, on ‘lunar’ time as it sits on Earth.

PICSSCross.jpg

The “cross”, then, is the symbol of human individuality - when the two axis are combined in a cross shape, they represent the cube of space, the four Elements, and the binding together in humans of Matter and Spirit. The old geometrical puzzle of ‘squaring the circle’ is a hidden reference to the continual difficulty of reconciling Spiritual and Material concerns, hence, most of us are unable to be and are falsely guided by matter, or falsely guided by Spirit, and do not seek “balance” between the two planes.

No matter what definition or meaning you carry with the “dash” or “horizontal line”, dotted and winding or short and Intentional, it is a powerful one. It brings strong magick to all Sigil Works. Something as seemingly simple as a diagonal line can go so far as to show flow of energy in your Works or how they may slide down as time goes on.

A “line”  …can carry the weight of the world.

Ley Lines

Oxford Concise Dictionary defines “ley lines” as: “The straight line of prehistoric track usually between Hilltops, Churches, Temples, Stone Circles, Burial Sites, or Spiritual Locations such as Druids.”

Birds, fish and all animals, species as diverse as pigeons, whales, bees and even bacteria can navigate using the Earth’s magnetic field as a ‘compass’. This compass helps them find direction back to breeding grounds and to warmer climates during winter months. They have also been said to be vast prehistoric trade routes and responsible for certain paranormal activities.

Tissue containing a substance called magnetite is responsible for this.

Magnetite enables living creatures to sense magnetic changes and has been found in human tissue linked to the ethmoid bone in the front of the skull. Yes, some more than others. But, learning to “feel” that sense improves that “sense of direction” that is innate.

The ethmoid bone being the cube-shaped bone located in the center of the skull between the eyes. It helps form the walls of the eye socket, or orbital cavity, as well as the roof, sides, and interior of the nasal cavity. Very light and sponge-like in texture, the ethmoid bone is one of the most complex bones of the face.

Earth is ringed by these energetic meridians, veins in a matrix of power,  and we know it is not just an anthropomorphic projection based on Chinese medicine. Many magnetic images of the earth show similar veins of energy beyond our normal perception.

Cultures more ancient than ours have always pointed to a hidden reality of energy. In an age where energy consciousness is dawning for some at least, perhaps we should attach more value to these ancient energy ‘pathways’. Geobiology is an emerging field and modern physics tells us nearly all the universe is made of energy and it is all available for our magickal Intent.

Sadly, humans have made Earth awash with electro-magnetic vibration on many levels. We even carry around our own electro-magnetic disturbance devices in the form of mobile phones. For those who have the ability to perceive and use  ‘hidden energies’ such as ley lines, modern electro-pollution makes much noise and interference. Connecting is often difficult. But perceiving at a more vibrational level is something people are tuning into, especially with their magick. Ley lines have the same connection to the Earth’s vortices of energy as meridians of energy are connected to chakras.

As a parting note, THIS is why most Paths ask their Practitioners to practice, Craft, Meditate, etc, WITHOUT A DEVICE PRESENT. It interferes with the energy of the Universe and you.

Divination 101
Common Cards

In the weeks before, we have seen pictures of and read about the Aces of Water, Cups, and Hearts. Because we have not arrived at all of these definitions shared below yet, attempt to connect these insights as well when we do. Feel your personal Intuition to their meanings too. Here is some further thoughts on what is drawn with the Divine.

The symbols mentioned above, are the same symbols that represent a “feminine” energy or quality, or more specifically these cards most often represent the Divine Feminine. When we see these cards, it is often our Divine or Higher Power communicating. (God or Divine Masculine energy is Rod/Stave, Sword, Spade, Club)

Their different symbols are representations of both Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine qualities in most decks, but remember it is as a spectrum. Even if the deck is a “Goddess” deck, there will be a Goddess with “masculine” qualities and visa-versa. Why? We are all whole beings.

The card tells us what aspect of the Universal energy spectrum to pay attention to when answering our questions, if we prescribe to tarot as a form of divination. Cartomancy is a divination that many Practitioners do consult with in their Magick and Medicine regularly, however.

In the Universe, there is always more than “one side”. There is often a blend of many, a spectrum. With that in mind, here are a few examples of interpretations to consider with questions asked:

A question is asked, the result is drawing a “King of Hearts”.

To many, this indicates a gentle but firm hand in addressing the matter. Masculine energy is needed but guided by the Feminine, and Love. It is a “masculine” IN THE SUIT OF “hearts” or “feminine”. So, don’t be a hardass about something. Firmly but politely severe ties for example. Keep an open heart.

A question is asked, a “Jack of Spades” is drawn.

This indicates that a younger, masculine energy is afoot. Or, an “inexperienced” masculine is present. Or, take for example – a “tough female” physiologically. It does not matter what the alignment is sexually. Spiritually that individual will be a “younger masculine” in the suit of “masculinity”. Keep an open mind.

Relationship Questions

3CMM recommends to ALWAYS ask follow up questions with “relationship” queries because the Divine can warn in this way too. We can be swept off our feet by this individual only to find out it was a “guise” as they have years of Shadow Work to do. Bottom line, relationship and death queries require more than  “one card” answers. (Some Practitioners utilize natal charts as backup or clarity) There is ALWAYS more to it. A wiser approach is asking what YOU (querant) need to address before the Divine Choice comes into fruition. After all, everyone’s bullshit stinks, that includes our own. ☺

A question is asked, a “Witch of Water” (equivocates to Queen of Hearts) appears.

That is one of the few most nurturing, gentle cards for “Divine Feminine” one can draw. That is Her “soft side” coming through a “feminine” energy as evidenced by the Element Water, as Water is “the source of all life”. This person, decision, etc, is “correct” at that moment of circumstances. She is guiding the occurrence. “Trust the process”. This is “feminine” energy, in the suit of “femininity”.

Masculine Energies

Common cards are easier to divine because we live in the society that we do. However, It would not receive a cross look everywhere we travel if we carried a deck of common playing cards in our purse or pack, pulling them when there is a need for divination. Knowing the symbolic exchange is empowering to personal practices.

Now let us look at some of these Masculine energy tarot cards for equality.

A question is asked, a “Knight of Swords” is drawn.

This illicits a “protector” in most colonized minds. Do not always assume that. It is a “masculine” energy in the suit of “masculinity”. A follow up question should be asked as this person could be “protecting” or “forcing” over something and preventing others from seeing the truth. Again, go with Intuition. If it’s a “relationship” question, ask a follow up. As they say, “the devil is in the details”.

A question is asked, a “Page of Pentacles” (Diamonds - Earth) jumps out.

Most take cards that jump out as a Divine answer and read them as such.  This is a young energy, typically masculine, in the suit of feminine. Looking beyond the card, a follow up may be needed.

Bottom line, look at the whole card but also look at where one is oriented. Look at what house of Magick that one is entering then look on the walls for details. See the background of the card. See the other details. LISTEN TO TO YOUR GUT. And, when done, write it out if this is a “regular” practice. We begin to see patterns in how we are guided or talked to through this form of divination.

Think About It
Divine Energies

Have you thought about which Divine Energy flows through your tarot? Which do you feel more connected with? Which speaks to you more often? Which cards appear more frequently? Both? Feminine? Masculine?

The Divine always speaks to us in the “voice” we need to hear.

Do you hear yours?
