Oracles and Oration
As we continue towards the last Quarter of our Path of Lessons here at Three Circles Medicine & Magick™, we will begin to introduce various aspects of Deity, or Divine Energy, to aid or explore in your spiritual practices and growth. We ask that you continue your Shadow Work, Ego Checks, as well as regular meditation and Journaling for Self to keep this progression of Self fresh for the entirety of your Life Journey.
Oration is defined as “a formal speech, especially one given on a ceremonial occasion.” Form, style, annunciation and personal understanding of the topic you are speaking on is something those who are listening to you will FIRST pick up on. During a Ritual, Rite, or Ceremony this is a crucial component, knowing the “why” of what you are doing.
The two deepest orations, the ones which pull the most energy from you personally to achieve, are those of Healing and Exorcism (Regardless of Path). The latter does not happen as often as you think … but “demons” are NOT the only thing we find our Practitioners “exorcising”. It can be the removal of any energy that does not, or no longer, serves or benefits you. It can even be “left over” whatever from someone you are Mentoring that did not successfully, or could not, clean, clear or ground. Typically this is because they are not firm enough in themselves to do so. For a simple example, a “junior priest” often calls upon a “senior priest” as one has more personal experience than the other.
Having exemplary oration skills also plays into the ability to pass messages via an Oracle as well. These are messages from Spirit for those outside of Self. Being able to articulate one’s self clearly and convey the idea so it may be understood by any lay person is important. Liken this ability as a nurse to a patient when explaining a treatment plan for example.
As an advanced Practitioner of the Arcane Arts, the Divine Energy will often move you for others. Not heeding that movement from Spirit can sometimes result in energy being displaced with you as it sits, like a cloud swirling around you, until you deliver the speech or Oracle message. It is often found amongst Practitioners that Ego is in the way of delivering the message or speech fully.
READ THAT AGAIN.
This level of metaphysical know how is no light load to carry as a Practitioner. It is often why humans step away from Self evolution, they simplu NOT ready for what may present to them.
As we teach, “no two Paths are the same” at Three Circles Medicine™ not every Practitioner is good at being an Oracle and are often better at giving a rousing speech at Ceremony or guiding Ritual than being an Oracle for Divine Messages. Some Practitioners are good at all of it, some are good at none of it.
BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF. If you feel that this is something that is being divinely presented to you, PRACTICE!
ORACLES
To clarify, a Practitioner of Oracle –or Divine Messenger, is not necessarily conveying a “direct message” from Deity. Most times it is our Soul seeing or Experiencing their Soul in a spiritual way. Sometimes this part of our Self can see things we do not see with Eyes of Matter but with Eyes of Spirit. It is often accompanied by a strong emotion or feeling towards that person, an “urging” to speak with them or commune with them.
Another thing to consider with oracles is the message source. Yes, we have messages from Deity all the time personally. Yes, we have messages from one Spirit to another. (Ours to theirs) We also receive messages from Ancestors and Elders wishing to communicate with us or another who may not be tuned in to hear this form of communication. Protecting your Self when you are this receptive is imperative.
HAVE YOU REINFORCED YOUR WARDS LATELY?
When Protecting or Warding for this type of energy, we must be mindful to not make it “so thick” that nothing can pass through. Doing this can inhibit our own spiritual growth and ability to “hear” what we are being guided by.

There are more oracles than we know of in modern time. Spirit is tuned in to our REALITY more so than we realize. In Ancient times, we consistently see about five regularly written of. We will present them here and encourage you to be open to Knowledge that may be discovered about them in the future. We caution you in following judgmental or “damning thought” such as that which claims things like, “the Oracle at Delphi was just high on cave gases.” While this may or may not be true, being under the influence of anything, whether it be a food substance, beverage, or even another person, can either enhance or inhibit the ability to hear Spirit.
THE ORACLE FIVE
All of these were considered “Oracles to Apollo” and were kept as such for their lives in ancient time. They were called the “Voice of the Divine” in that most messages were seemingly divine in nature.
The ancient Greek Oracle was the direct link to the God Apollo for most people of the time. Divine thought was already being pushed away as Matter was taking hold in the world.
It is noted that the clerics at Delphi, often priests, were most often male but the Oracle, called the Pythia, was always female. Why do you think that is? It is believed she was chosen among the citizens of Delphi and was usually over 50 years old. She served for life and remained unwed and chaste –as her life was sworn to service of a deity.
The first four are considered “Pythian Priestesses” but towards the latter days of oracle in Greece, the “Oracle at Delphi” become the most powerful priestess oracle. The Pythian priestess emerged pre-eminent by the end of the 7th century BCE and continued to be consulted until the late 4th century CE. During this period, the Delphic Oracle was the most prestigious and authoritative oracle among the Greeks, and she was among the most powerful females of the classical world.
It is noted that as Rome assimilated Greece the oracles became known as “sibyls”. These female priestesses were regarded highly and listened to as an oracle or prophet of the Divine as well.
Dodona
Just before 2 BCE, with some archeological finds dating back to Myceneans, she was an oracle of the Mother Goddess, Rhea or Gaia as noted. She was attended by many priestesses in her temples. Dodona is the only Oracle of ancient time noted to NOT be an Oracle of Apollo alone. Dodona often gave prophesy or oracle to ALL people and was considered one of the last Hellenic oracles. Her sites continue to be revered even with the rise of the Christian Path. (Name is possibly derived from “of Dione” or “of Diane”.)
Trophonius
Around 3 CE, The Oracle of Trophonius was one of the four Oracles solely associated with Apollo, despite her name. She was considered one of the most dangerous of the four oracles, but it is felt this occurred because the current of divine energy was shifting.
If someone desired to consult the oracle, a priest escort them to live in a designated Ritual house for a period of days, bathing in the River Herkryna (also Erkina), and living on consecrated and sacrificial meats. The Seeker would then sacrifice, by day, to a series of gods, including Cronus, Apollo, Zeus the king, Hera the Charioteer, and Demeter-Europa. At night, the Seeker would cast a ram into a pit sacred to Agamedes, drink from two rivers called Lethe and Mnemosyne, and then descend into a cave to the Oracle. Here, most Seekers were frightened out of their minds and would promptly forget the experience entirely upon coming back out.
Afterward, the Seeker would be seated upon a chair of Mnemosyne, where the priests of the shrine would record his ravings and compose an oracle out of them. (Name is derived from “to nourish” or “to nourish with sound/speech”.)
Erythaea
Known as Herophile: the Oracle and Sibyl of Erythaea, this temple is thought to have had several sibyls with this one the only one being named “Herophile”. The term acrostic has been applied to the prophecies of the Erythraean Sibyl, which were written on leaves and arranged so that the initial letters of the leaves always formed a word, a powerful magick in itself.
Cumæ
The Cumaean Sibyl was the priestess and prophet of the God Apollo’s oracle at Cumae in Greece. The most well-known story attached to the Sibyl involves her nine prophetic books, which contained knowledge that Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the semi-legendary last king of early Rome, sought to procure.
He haggled with the priestess over price, so we are told that the Sibyl threw three of the books into a temple fire and made a second offer. Lucius declined again so she burned three more. Eventually he bought the remaining three books, according to some accounts, for the original price. Other stories out there claim that the Sibyl doubled the price with each offer. Most Practitioners think that Lucius simply wanted the books for free, for his own benefit.
In the end, the Sibylline Books were kept on the Capitoline Hill in Rome until they were destroyed in 83 CE when the temple that housed them was burned in one of the many wars of the time of Rome’s beginning conquests.
Delphi
The Oracle at Delphi. The one we ALL know. THE Pythia, High Priestess of the Temple of Apollo. She was His “Metatron”. His voice. made prophecies about the future. Countless people went there to ask questions of the God Apollo, who would answer through the Oracle.
It is thought in some circles that the priestess sat on a special three-legged bronze bowl and would “free bleed” during her oracle practices, continuing to commune with the Mother Goddess in her way.
As Rome and all of Christendom rose to power, the oracles were no more, at least not found in “this” way.
