Elementals as Guides and Guardians
Whether we believe in the Orishas (Yoruba) of natural elements, Airts (Wiccan), Spirits (First Nation), Watchtowers (Hermetic) or Guardians, when Practitioners “call quarters”, “call corners” or call Spirits, the Elements/Elementals are being called upon to aid us in our Work. Since the beginning, these Kindred spirits have held their place with us in our Practices, even when we do no acknowledge them.
Anyone can call on their energetic assistance.
Depending on what Path a Practitioner chooses to walk, will determine which Element is assigned to each cardinal direction. For this, we will use Wicca (Wave Tradition) and First Nation (Cherokee) as reference.
In WT, it is considered the Airts (pronounced “eights”, a Scottish word). In Cherokee, it is considered an Element of Spirit. These are called upon at the beginning of virtually every ceremony of what is considered “high magick” … or when there are in depth workings at hand. Other Practitioners call on Elementals DAILY. The Free Will to choose, is yours and yours alone.
What do you feel? What calls to you? Unless you follow a SPECIFIC PATH, “no two Paths are the same.”
These Elements represent the existence of most things we Experience in Matter on this plane. They each can also correspond to a Cardinal Direction, or the personal orientation of the land we reside upon. This in turn symbolizes our connection to the entire Universe that stretches out into the four directions and returns the four directions to deep within us, like a twisting Möbius strip, or DNA helix.
“As above, so below”.
CLOCKWISE
Something to consider if and when it is decided to call Elemental directions, is “which way to turn”. Most Wiccans and many Ceremonial Magickans turn deosil, or ‘clock-wise’ and with the sun.
COUNTER CLOCKWISE
Cherokee along with other indigenous of the world move in the Medicine Wheel and in other Native American ceremonies in a circular walk too. This direction is chosen because it mirrors the natural paths of many of our celestial bodies, which is believed to be favorable to the divine. However, movement associated with the changing seasons on the wheel is an exception to the direction.
Other Practitioners, including Reverend Richoz, walk counterclockwise, or widdishins as other practices would say. Derived from Old High German weddersinnes, meaning "against the way", some feel this is a shaming that took place long ago to state superiority over another’s practices.
When Practitioners walk WITH the rotation of Mother Earth, counterclockwise, it is “Earth based” Magick or Medicine. This is done in belief that it is most empowering to the energy at hand, the Spell or Work being done, as we live WITH Earth.
But, if the Practitioners are Banishing for example, they would then walk clockwise.
REVEREND RICHOZ BoS
”Starting in the East, face towards the rising sun, and with Element Fire, Red Spirit. Most Paths of Earth START this direction too, the East, but this is Air to some of their Practices.
Why?
Because in the Magick & Medicine practices of many Europeans, it is based on prevailing winds, water location, where the sun rises, etc. such as with land orientation as mentioned above.
ELEMENT THOUGHTS
Many Practitioners believe that the Elements prefer us to work with what Nature presents to us, individually, not what a human has written in a book or blog. They ask us to feel what direction is most fluent with energy that BEST benefits us each. This will then enhance our Workings and aid their presence to help seeing it though in a complimentary vibration.
Remember: “No two Paths are the same.”
Elemental Correspondences to Direction
Below you will find examples of how various Paths view Cardinal Directions and color of their Elements. Consider what feels “correct” to YOU. Unless we are walking a SPECIFIC PATH, we DO NOT have to choose any of this. Our Medicinal or Magickal interpretation is solely ours.
For the indigenous, different tribes interpret the Medicine Wheel differently. Each of the Four Directions (East, South, West, and North) is typically represented by a distinctive color, such as black, red, yellow, and white, It varies by tribe.

ANI’YUNWIYA (ᎠᏂᏴᏫᏯ - CHEROKEE)
East: Fire: Red
North: Wind: Blue
West: Water: Black
South: Earth: White
GARDNERIAN (WICCA)
East: Air: Yellow
South: Fire: Red
West: Water: Blue
North: Earth: Black
HINDU TATTWA
East: Air: Blue
South: Fire: Red
West: Water: White
North: Earth: Yellow
Each Path has a “way” that most who walk the specific Path agree upon. But, most Practitioners of the Arcane call upon what feels “correct” relative to their land, or to them personally. (For example, “East-Fire” does not feel correct to someone who lives with an ocean or large body of Water in the East.)

These offerings do not scratch the surface of the Elemental representations seen around Earth. If this is something that calls to you, seek it out and notate what is found. It is always a good tool to have rather than “not have” the Knowledge of.
Continued Shadow Work
We have been exploring Self and personal practices for some time now and would like to share a couple more videos for ideas to continue this lifelong work that is invaluable to personal practices and energy. The more we do, the better we will become and the more strength and clarity we will see flowing into practices.
This Moon Day night, let us think about 3CMM while we are focusing on our Intent of Self, and whatever we may understand Self needs to have occur for continued growth. Let us focus on what we are learning and ask for that extra energetic “push” of energy into our next evolution and involution.
Wahya Circle - First Degree Practitioners have taken a giant step towards fulfilling goals of Medicine, Magick and persnal Experience!
Meditate.
Light a candle.
Say some words.
Write some words.
Hear some words.
Tonight, no matter what is happening around you, stop and acknowledge the power of Luna / Moon, Elementals, Self, and all that they are connected to in the things that you have absorbed this far.
Stop and think about what YOU are doing for the benefit of your Medicine and Magick.
Think about WHY you are attending 3CMM.
Ask for divine guidance in how to move forward as you sleep.
After all, you hear YOU most.
